Woven Shibori Portraits
Working with a digital TC-2 thread-controller loom these portraits are woven in white and then dyed using a technique known as woven shibori, an ancient Japanese method for hand-dying fabric where the fabric is woven inserting a special supplementary weft which is pulled tight (like a tie-dye t-shirt) and then the cloth is dyed. The shibori threads are removed to reveal the dyed and woven image.
